Thank you so much! Yeah CalArts was huge on pushing shape in our drawings. A lot of the teachers would give the advice to draw something, then walk across the room and see if you can still understand what’s going on. Another good thing to try is look up blogs that have art you love and try to redraw the drawings as if you were thinking of them yourself. It’s a great way to learn about shape language while also trying to step into the shoes of whatever artists you look up to. :)
As for PS brushes I can’t say too much, most of my brushes are either default brushes that I’ve messed around with the settings or just collecting from friends. If you’re going specifically for watercolor/painting look, I would suggest downloading free brushes online with a rough texture and from there adjusting the color variation settings. Usually the combination of the rough brush with those adjusted settings can look awesome, especially since most artist opt for only flat colors.
